West L.A. is a world of its own, despite being part of the city of Los Angeles. With showpiece landmarks like the Getty Center, the Santa Monica Pier and the Venice Boardwalk, many of the world's visitors to the area find themselves on West Side, while over half a million folks call it home.
West Los Angeles includes famous neighborhoods such as Malibu, Brentwood, and Century City. The West L.A. neighborhood of Westwood is home to the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), one of the largest public schools in the country. Culver City, home of entertainment juggernaut Sony Pictures Studios is included in this area despite being independently incorporated.
Even thought there exists a much smaller geographical neighborhood named "West Los Angeles" within the larger area, most consider anything north of Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and south of the Sepulveda Pass to be "West L.A.", with an eastern border at Beverly Hills.
