Prescription Flea Protection for Dogs and Cats
Choosing an appropriate flea prevention method can be challenging. And though there are many over-the-counter (OTC) brands of flea treatments available, none are as safe or effective as the prescription offerings.
In fact, due to developing resistances to the (usually older) chemicals used in them, some of these flea applications only kill around 50% of fleas. Results like that can make getting rid of an existing infestation a long and hard battle.
But prescription flea treatments are generally more expensive than their OTC counterparts, so it's a decision each pet parent has to make on their own.
If you decide that rx-strength flea treatment and prevention is the way to go, Qualified can help. We offer three major brands of flea and parasite protection formulas for dogs and the most popular flea treatment for cats.
Flea, tick and other parasite protection does not require an existing prescription
While our other prescription medications for dog and cats are only available with a pre-written prescription, our major-brand flea protection meds include the necessary vet exam and prescription-writing. Just bring your pet with you, of course, and our staff veterinarian will perform the exam while you wait.
More about flea protection plus
The following prescription-only parasite protection medications can help prevent or eradicate flea infestations, tick problems, and more. All are available at our clinics at great prices on a walk-in basis; no appointment required. As with any prescription medication, they do require a veterinary exam, so your pet must be physically present.
Comfortis for dogs and cats
Comfortis® (spinosad) is a fast, safe and effective treatment for flea infestations on your dog or cat. It kills fleas fast: in a controlled laboratory study in dogs, Comfortis killed 100% of the fleas in just four hours.
The worst part of a flea infestation is not what you can see–it's what you can't. Microscopic flea eggs, larvae and pupae can permeate your home and keep the flea infestation cycle going.
Comfortis kills fleas before they lay eggs, and Comfortis keeps killing fleas for a full month with each dose.
Use Comfortis for at least three months to treat a current flea infestation, then continue routine use to prevent a reinfestation on your pet.
In a field study conducted in households with existing flea infestations in dogs, flea count reductions of 97.9% were observed one month after the first treatment and 99.9% after three monthly treatments with Comfortis.
For Dogs and Cats
NexGard for dogs
NexGard® (afoxolaner) is the first flea and tick killer of its kind because it comes in a tasty, beef-flavored soft chew that protects your dog from a flea and tick infestation for a full 30 days.
That means, you don't have to worry anymore about messy topicals, or accidentally washing your dog's preventative off while bathing!
Also, it can be taken alongside your dog's heartworm medication, without interruption.
NexGard Chewables keep your pet protected from adult fleas by killing them before they have a chance to lay eggs, which reduces the possibility of a flea infestation.
Plus, they kill three types of ticks (the American dog tick, the black-legged (Deer) tick and the Lone Star tick), which decreases the risk of your pet developing a deadly tick-borne disease.
Only for Dogs
Revolution for dogs

- Controls American dog tick infestations
Revolution is quick-drying, nongreasy and waterfast, with no unpleasant odor, so you can cuddle and play with your dog as soon as the product dries.
